There’s a great craft
venue in town located inside Simply Irresistible!, the new gallery on
Ola Mae Way next to Kiln on the Hill and Saluda Forge. Gallery owner Kathleen
Carson, who has directed and participated in many fine craft fairs in
the area, is bringing together more than two dozen artisans to create
a festive show and sale of fine crafts.
In clothing, Donna Maltony is painting and
embroidering shirts and jackets. Gail Muir and Jean Pettigrew are sewing
vests, jackets, and purses. Barbara Tilly is hand-painting silk scarves
for women and ties for men. Kelly Sparks is knitting hats.
Working with glass are Kate and Neil Barkschat
plus Dot Pearce. The Barkschats are known for their kaleidoscopes and
whimsical pieces and Pearce, mosaic objects.
In two-dimensions, Elaine Pearsons is exhibiting
her hand-painted photographs. Mara and Ford Smith are framing archival
prints of their local photographs. Nancy Harris is showing her paintings.
Ceramics are being represented by Carolyn Sawyer,
a former Tryon Crafts pottery instructor, Ann Gleason, Nancy Chisholm,
and Kathleen Carson, owner of Hand Painted Tiles, Kiln on the Hill, and
Simply Irresistable!
Bill Crowell and Patti Peake are forging ironworks.
Howard Bradley is turning bowls. Peter Werner is handmaking brooms. Ken
Wheeler and Pine Ridge Woodcrafters are displaying fine furniture. Bob
Neely is creating wood walking sticks and blue bird houses.
This is a great mix of quality and variety
plus the prices are perfect for gift giving. It’s an outstanding
event!
Check out these handcrafted gift items at Tryon’s
newest gallery. Simply Irresistible! is downtown, on the hill behind North
Trade Street’s Century 21 and A. G. Edwards.
Gallery hours are 11am to 6pm Tuesday through
Saturday.
